Where to Put Your Cat Bed
by Bill Drumner
Where you place your cat bed depends on many factors. Consider
each one carefully when you are planning the perfect position.
- Where does your cat prefer to sleep? Do they like to be high
or low? Do they like an open area, or somewhere a bit closed in
where they feel a little more secure? Does your cat like to wake
up occassionally and look out the window, or even just lay on
their bed and look out the window all day?
Do you have a 'hot' cat or a 'cool' cat? A hot cat will love being
in the sunshine or nearer a heater, while a cool cat will prefer
being away from them.
- You need somewhere a little out of the way so your treasure
is not disturbed by loud noises, banging etc. Don't forget, your
cat's bed is the place for him or here to 'get away from it all',
so put it somewhere quiet.
- If you are putting the cat bed where it catches the sun make
sure it does not get so hot in that position that it overheats
the cat. Same with putting it near a heater, if too close your
cat's skin can dry out leading to skin problems.
- If you are putting the bed near to a window, don't forget that
glass is not a good insulator and it can get very cold next to
a window! If you live in a cold area and you don't have double
glazing, you will need to cover the window with a drape if it
gets too cold.
- Make sure the bed is sitting on a solid base. Your cat will
get a very rude shock if the bed suddenly slides out from under
them, especially if they are up high. If the shelf is too smooth
consider attaching velcro tabs to keep the bed secure.
- If your cat won't sleep on the bed she may not like the position.
Consider moving it to where she might be more comfortable.
